My name is Doug Crane, and I became a librarian since 1997 and have worked in libraries since my teenage years. I have been helping librarians and other professionals get their inboxes down to zero since 2012!
I believe that librarians should be on the forefront of using and teaching productivity tools and tricks to help the public manage their information more effectively. Information leads to knowledge which in turn leads to wisdom. It is my hope that the ideas from this blog will help lead to greater wisdom for all of us.
I was appointed Director of the Palm Beach County Library System in 2014. In addition to my role at Palm Beach County, I am the Past Chair of the State Library Council of Florida. I am also Past President of the Southeast Florida Library Information Network (SEFLIN). In addition, I am a proud lifetime member of the American Library Association (ALA) and a member of the Florida Library Association (FLA) and the Public Library Association. In 2021, FLA recognized me as Florida Librarian of the Year. From 2023-24 I served as President of FLA with my year’s theme, “Florida Libraries: Fundamental to Freedom.”
I was a founding member of the Palm Beach County Toastmasters Club, where I became a Distinguished Toastmaster, the highest level of educational achievement in the organization. I am a past Area Director within Toastmasters’ District 47 and am now a proud member of Gold Coast Toastmasters.
In my spare time, I admire my collection of Doctor Who sonic screwdrivers, and relax at home with my wife, daughter, dog and cat.
